“A constant interest in work plus an interest in everyday things can give the artist and designer endless number of fresh ideas.” —Bradbury Thompson

Inspirational posters, with their majestic (and photoshopped) waterfalls, rainbows, and charismatic megafauna, got it wrong.

Without a doubt, there is inspiration in the grandeur of natural landscapes. Any of the Romantics, say Wordsworth with his lines written above Tintern Abbey, would argue so. A trip to Bryce Canyon might inspire your next project.

But what about the dog hair stuck on the couch? What about the rumpled sheets in the morning? What about the way the rain sounds in the gutter? What about the, in the case of Bradbury Thompson, toy horse left by a child on the floor? For him, tripping over it was enough to inspire a new magazine spread design.
