Dieter Rams had ten principles for good design.

Ultimately, though, it’s simpler and harder than that.

A good designer is not one who can quickly assemble a sharp layout—that’s a skilled designer.

A good designer is not one who meets every deadline—that’s a punctual designer.

A good designer is not one who prolifically sketches creative ideas—that’s an innovative designer.

A good designer is skilled, punctual, and innovative…and refuses to engage in any situation that they sense is likely to cause harm and disrupt peace.

Zero tolerance. Zero compromises. Zero exceptions. These are the basic standards that a good designer upholds at all times, at any cost.
